Here are just a few ideas of the villages and towns in our area that are worth a visit. We would strongly recommend that you take a little time to explore the countryside inland, The Garden of Portugal as it is known. Travelling inland gives you a very different view of Portugal, very quickly you discover little whitewashed villages and beautiful countryside.  Here you will find almond trees with their white almond blossom in early Spring and the heady scent of the orange and lemon groves, also carobs, pomegranates and fig trees. 

Guia this is just a short drive north from our house. Guia has a small municipal market where you can buy fresh fish and vegetables. Guia is famous for Frango piri piriand there are many restaurants to choose from.  There are two churches of interest; the 17th Centuary Main church and the Hermitage of Nossa Senhora da Guia (Our Lady of the Good Journey) with its beautiful facade and baroque buildings. Zoomarine a fabulous marine park for all the family,  we have been to this park many many times over the years with our family, watching the dolphins leap through rings and the highly entertaining seal and sea lion show, which fortunately for us all, changes annually. Book Now >>

The Moorish capital of the Algarve, is a 20 minute drive, the red sandstone walls of the castle still dominate the hill above the white washed houses with their narrow streets. There has been a great renovation project on going at the castle and together with the town is a great place to visit.  The Cafe Ingles at the foot of the castle wall does Sunday lunch with very good live music.

Monchique

Mochique is the highest village in the Algarve, the surrounding Serra de Monchique offer wonderful mountain woodlands for walking.

There are a vast selection of activities available to visitors to the Albufeira, Vale de Para area. The Algarve is, of course, famous for its Golf and there are some of the best Golf course in the world literally on our doorstep.
